Shanghai grew from a tiny 11th-century fishing village into what it is today: China's largest city, known for its iconic skyline, bustling streets, museums and sweet cuisine. It is now home to important educational institutions such as Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, East China University of Science and Technology, and more.
Here, you can visit Michelin-starred restaurants, luxurious hotels and stunning Ming Dynasty gardens (Yuyuan Garden). Don't forget to visit the Bund riverside district to get lost in the magic of old Shanghai, with its historical architecture and street stalls.
Guangzhou is the capital of the Guangdong province in southern China. Founded over 2,200 years ago, the city operates as a major port and has a fascinating history, having been captured by the British during the First Opium War.
Take a night cruise on the Pearl River for a unique perspective on the city's neon lights. Daredevils can climb the 600-metre tall Canton Tower and take the Sky Drop (a 30-metre free fall) – or if you're looking for a more peaceful experience, take in the varied architecture of Shamian Island, wander around Yuexiu Park or hike the White Cloud Mountain.
Beijing was founded 3000 years ago, making it one of the oldest cities in the world. Now, it's China's capital and one of the world's leaders in multiple disciplines, including culture, finance, politics and media.
When in Beijing, one must-see is the Great Wall. Explore by cable car, hiking, and even marathon running. Visit the Beijing Hutongs for a glimpse into traditional Beijing, indulge in Peking Duck, and discover the Forbidden City, the largest ancient palatial structure in the world.
